Simmonds Architecture at the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association’s 41st Housing Design Awards 

On November 2nd, 2024, our Simmonds Architecture team attended the 41st Annual Housing Design Awards, hosted by the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association (GOHBA) at the Shaw Centre in downtown Ottawa.

A record 760 guests gathered in Canada Hall, where the evening featured on-site artists creating auction pieces, breakdancers, DJs, and an Airstream RV serving signature drinks. Awards were presented across over 50 categories, recognizing the achievements of local designers, architects, builders, renovators, and suppliers in areas such as production and custom homes, renovations, green innovation, design details, and more.

We were honoured to be finalists in 14 categories and are thrilled to have brought home 3 awards, achieved in collaboration with our valued partners. This recognition reflects the dedication and exceptional work our team has delivered—and will continue to deliver—for our clients.

Renovation $750,001 – $1,000,000  | Deco Blanche: Simmonds Architecture with Casa Verde

Completed in collaboration with Casa Verde, Deco Blanche is situated on a quiet street and nestled in a park-like environment, featuring a modern, low-profile one-storey addition that extends horizontally from the original two-storey structure. Set back from the street, the addition introduces new living spaces, including a family room, breakfast nook and a home theatre, all with expansive views and abundant natural light. A striking glass-enclosed stairway connects the original and new sections. Landscaping enhancements include a framed walk-out patio, sunken gardens, and an in-ground pool. The addition’s minimalist design and cohesive materials blend seamlessly with the original structure, preserving the home’s elegant charm.

Custom Kitchen – Contemporary (251 sq. ft. or more, $100,000 and under)  | Ironspot Modern Kitchen: Simmonds Architecture with RND Construction and Cedar Ridge Designs & Custom Cabinetry

The Ironspot Modern’s kitchen, crafted in collaboration with RND Construction and Cedar Ridge Designs & Custom Homes, is located on the main floor of this contemporary, mid-century-inspired split-level home. Its placement takes full advantage of abundant natural light streaming through floor-to-ceiling and clerestory windows. It features walnut and iron-grey millwork, echoing the exterior’s iron-grey brick and wood accents, enhancing the continuity between interior and outdoor elements.

Exterior Living Space  | Ironspot Modern Backyard: Simmonds Architecture with RND Construction 

The exterior living space of the Ironspot Modern, produced in collaboration with RND Construction, is a warm, inviting retreat that extends the home’s comfort outdoors. The backyard includes a deck, accessible from the kitchen and mudroom, that’s perfect for al fresco dining and gatherings. A plunge pool, framed by cedar hedges and lush greenery, offers an ideal spot for refreshing summer dips and cozy, heated soaks in the fall. Ambient lighting around the pool and deck stairs enhances the enchanting atmosphere for evening relaxation.
