A barrel vaulted ceiling hovers over the great room of this family home. The tall, expansive windows overlook the outdoor areas including a patio, vaulted gazebo and pool area which form a continuum of entertainment spaces for family and friends.

The great room and kitchen are one open, continuous area ideal for family gatherings and allows unimpeded sight lines wherever the kids may be playing. The great room is anchored by a stone faced wall and fireplace which wraps around into the dining room. Cabinetry in a dark wood tone contrasts with the stone in both the great room and dining area. A quiet sitting area is located at the front of the house and receives afternoon and evening light, making a great spot for reading or more intimate entertaining.

Clerestory windows over the central stairwell bring daylight streaming into the centre of the home to illuminate the glass railed stair system right down to basement level. A balcony from the upstairs hallway looks out over the great room to the backyard play space.

The master ensuite is a spacious plan with the bedroom and bathroom connected by a double sided fireplace between. Large windows overlook the backyard. Generous mudroom facilities accommodate the coming and going of the family arriving from outings or from the backyard and pool, with built-in cubbies and benches to help organize the kids.

The backyard features a huge gazebo with an arched roof mirroring the curve of the great room roof. The gazebo provides an outdoor dining area or poolside shade, and includes a storage and change room behind.

Throughout the design and construction processes, energy efficiency and waste reduction techniques were thoroughly considered in order to produce a green and efficient home.  It is a great accomplishment that a large home can also be very sustainable and energy efficient.  The home is built to Energy Star 12.1 and R-2000 standards. The large windows following the curve of the vaulted great room ceiling are an important design feature, and are triple glazed with two low E coatings throughout the home to reduce solar heat gain. The home is divided into two heating and cooling zoned systems to help maximize efficiency. A future consideration, the home is solar ready with a pipe from the mechanical room to the attic in place.
