Lakehouse Retreat

Quebec

Located on a unique 6.5-acre property overlooking 1,200 ft of lakefront with a private bay and beach, this lakehouse is designed to capture and frame the stunning lake views while embracing the unique landscape that surrounds it. The lake house features three separate cantilevered pods, each sitting at the natural level of the property, joined by an all-glass breezeway that provides both the entryway to the home and access to a large outside living area facing the lake. The intentional positioning of the pods to follow the natural shoreline, along with the use of organic materials and a charcoal and cedar color palette for the exterior design, allows the lake house to blend seamlessly into the landscape.

The morning sunrise and full water views of the lake are maximized with floor-to-ceiling, high-energy-efficient windows along the southeast elevations, while deliberate window placement on the northwest elevation of the lake house frames the maturely treed forest, exposed Canadian shield, and sunset hues. Its rocky hillside frames the lakehouse’s entrance, providing intimate views strategically located throughout the home.

The exterior landscaping utilizes large rocks excavated on-site for natural accents and incorporates indigenous plantings for a cohesive and environmentally conscious design. Modern linear tiles on the entrance and flagstone paths on the lakeside beautifully transition the modern and the natural, creating a zen-like environment.

The inside features coastal-inspired elements in its open plan, natural stone, and wood finishes, along with light and airy colors for a warm modern design aesthetic. White honed marble is featured on the 12-foot kitchen island and throughout the home to consistently anchor the natural design. French Oak flooring and 28-foot Douglas fir beams add drama and accentuate the cedar clad ceilings, which flow to the outside living spaces to create a seamless connection between the interior and exterior spaces.
